London buses are set to undergo a major change as Arriva London makes an announcement on the future of their vehicles.
As they've shared that they plan to welcome 50 new zero-emission electric vehicles into operation this year.
It comes as part of Arriva's pledge to deliver a sustainable and environmentally friendly bus network.
Arriva vehicles which are manufactured by Wrightbus will see enhanced specifications to benefit customer experience.
With new features including aesthetically pleasing onboard lighting, wood effect flooring, hi-resolution destination blinds, digital customer information screens, and USB charging points.
Arriva London to introduce electric buses
The electric buses will arrive at Arriva Enfield, Arriva Brixton Tramshed and Arriva Thornton Heath between May and September this year.
The arrival is part of the next phase in the Arriva London sustainability plan which has previously transformed the Brixton Tramshed operation, creating a fully electrical and zero-emission bus service across Brixton.
Arriva London Commercial Director, Graham Davies said: “Welcoming the new Wrightbus electric fleet into our Enfield and Thornton Heath garages, whilst further strengthening our Brixton-based fleet, is an exciting milestone in our continued journey to operating a greener, decarbonised bus network across London. We are delighted to once again be working in partnership with Wrightbus and Zenobe on this project to support TfL’s long-term vision”.
Along with improving on-board customer experience and sustainability in North and South London the electrical fleet will create opportunities to upskill the Arriva London workforce.
Seeing drivers and engineers will become a vital part of the successful rollout and ongoing management of the 50 buses.
