A man formerly from Bromley is set to take part in this year’s TCS London Marathon in memory of his grandfather who passed away from prostate cancer.

Chris Brittain is currently training to compete in this year’s London Marathon and will be cheered on by his grandmother Lesley in support.

Chris will be raising money for the World Cancer Research Fund in support of research into cancer prevention and survival through diet, physical activity and nutrition.

The 28-year-old is training for the marathon as he tours around Europe in a van before returning to the UK to take part in the marathon this year.

Chris said: “Training while on the move is a bit challenging.

“I’m always trying to find a body of water or sea which is easier to run next to as I can find my way back more easily, as opposed to running on the roads.

“The great thing about travelling around Europe is that I get to see new places, including the scenic Lake Annecy which I ran through recently with a view of the French Alps in the background – what an experience that was”.

Chris isn’t the first in his family to compete. Chris’ grandfather John competed in the event five times, followed by his father Tim, who has competed twice.

Chris said that although he is running in memory for his grandfather he will also be running to support a “long list” of family and friends for the cause.

Chris said: “Even as a 28-year-old, the list of family and friends’ names I am running in support of is too long, which is a huge problem, and exactly the reason I am choosing to fundraise.

“I can’t think of a better way to honour my grandad’s life than by running this iconic marathon while raising money for World Cancer Research Fund.”

Hannah Burgess, Events Manager at WCRF said: “Chris is a huge inspiration to all of us and we are so grateful for all of his fundraising efforts.

“Running a marathon is no easy feat, but people like Chris inspire our cancer prevention and survival work by raising funds for an important cause.”
