A NEW scheme to help older and more vulnerable people to feel safer in their homes has been launched in Bexley.

The Nominated Neighbour scheme hopes to save these people from becoming victims of rogue traders and distraction burglars.

People in the scheme will be advised not to engage with people who knock on their door requesting help or trying to sell goods or offer a service.

Instead they will have a card to hand out, which contains the details of their "nominated neighbour" who will then check the details of the caller to establish their identity.

If the caller is genuine, the neighbour will accompany them back to the elderly person's home.

Anyone who wants to become part of the scheme, needs to make an appointment with a member of their local safer neighbourhoods policing team.
