An independent Tapas restaurant in south east London has announced the closure of its second restaurant in Deptford after the Peckham restaurant closed days before.

The Tapas Room announced the closure of its restaurant in Deptford Market Yard on social media on December 30.

The post said the Deptford branch would remain open until December 31, before it closed its doors forever.

The Deptford branch was the second restaurant within the small chain to close this December, with the restaurant in Peckham high street closing on December 30.

The business said the closure of both restaurants is a result of rising costs and having to streamline the business in order to maintain the three remaining restaurants within the business.

The Facebook post read: “This is a really hard one. Within the wake of the closure of Peckham we are also having to close our lovely little arch in Deptford Market Yard this weekend.

“Again the reasons are familiar to the hospitality industry as a whole, and we find ourselves having to streamline the entire group in order to manage the rising costs. Leaving us no choice but to close these two sites in order to save the others."

The post continued: “The decision to close both Peckham and Deptford has been an extremely hard one, especially at this time of year.

“Please continue to support the Tapas Room in Battersea, Tooting and Brixton.

“Please go and show your support, we have loved working in both these amazing south London neighbourhoods.

“Happy New Year! Let's raise a glass of Cava to The Tapas Room and all you lovely customers who have supported us over the years.”

The Tapas Room has three remaining restaurants in south London: Battersea, Brixton and Tooting which remain open to diners.
