A charity that rehomes dogs in London, Kent and south east England has revealed 5 dogs most in need of homes this Christmas with one due to spend Christmas in kennels.

A Lewisham charity that rehomes dogs has got five dogs who are most in need of new homes this Christmas.

Pro Dogs Direct was founded by Gladys Hutcheson who began the charity from her Catford home in 2006.

It now operates with a dedicated team of volunteers and fosterers who work remotely across London, Kent and the south east.

The charity has told the News Shopper which dogs may not get as much interest from would-be adopters either due to their age or circumstances.

These dogs are “proving harder to find homes for” and particularly need to find their new forever homes for Christmas.

Zuma

Zuma, six, is a bouncy Rottweiler in urgent need of a forever home or a foster home for the Christmas period.

Zuma is the only dog under the charity’s care currently being boarded in kennels and the charity is desperate to find her a home or a temporary foster, so she doesn’t have to spend Christmas in kennels.

She is described as a “lovely girl who loves people and enjoys interacting with humans.”

According to the charity she has no known health issues, she has a strong will when walking on the lead and would need and owner or a fosterer strong enough to manage her.

The charity advises that Zuma cannot be rehomed with other dogs, cats and children under the age of 14.

The charity is seeking applications to adopt or foster her and welcome applications from people with experience in handling large breeds like her.

Coco and Tess

Coco, 8 and Tess, 7 are looking for a loving home as a pair, a spokesperson for the charity said pair “must be rehomed together.”

The pair, one cocker spaniel and one springer spaniel, are described by the charity to be a friendly pair that love attention.

The pair are looking for a cat free, child free home and have no known health issues.

The charity says that Tess can be a little sensitive and would need an experienced owner to give her the reassurance she needs.

Coco on the other hand is confident and will need an owner to give him some positive reinforcement to help him walk calmly on the lead.

Both dogs are described by the charity to be “gorgeous, happy dogs who are very loving and don’t want to get things wrong.”

The charity also recommends that prospective owners should be ones with “an understanding of spaniels and be around for a good part of the day.”

Raven

Raven, six, a cockerpoo came into the charity as an ex-breeding dog and as a result is described by the charity as being “nervous around new people.”

So, her new owners would need to be patient to get her to where she needs to be.

The charity says she is enjoying home life, although she is still nervous of loud noises and is most happy to be around other dogs in the home.

Raven would suit a home with other dogs to help her grow in confidence, she cannot be placed in a home with cats or children under 14.

Arley

Arley, 9, is a Staffordshire Terrier described by the charity to be “a sweet girl who is friendly and loves attention” who came from a loving home.

News Shopper:

The charity says that she “enjoys mooching around in the garden and is settled in the home.”

She loves going for walks and travels well on car rides.

Any potential owners should keep her away from dogs when out as she can be reactive if the come to close.

She would best suit a home with no other dogs, cat or young children.

She has some ongoing health issues with allergies which can be managed through medication according to the charity.

She also has a cyst on one foot and would need to continue to lose weight to give her the best health in her older years.

She would best suit a home with owners who understand her breed and are able to manage her reactivity around other dogs.

All the dogs are available to adopt on Pro Dogs Direct and will be insured for a month with Pet Plan on adoption.

All the dogs are fostered in various locations in and around London and the south east of England which prospective owners would need to travel to.

Christmas is the busiest time of year for the charity who says this is their most expensive with many dogs in their care.

If you would like to donate to the charity to fund the cost of caring for their dogs this Christmas you can donate by texting DOGXMAS along with the amount you want to give to 70085.
