London Ambulance Service has confirmed that a cyclist who was taken to hospital from the A20 in Sidcup suffered a cardiac arrest.

The incident happened on the A20 Bypass just before 10.50am yesterday (October 30).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews were initially called to reports of a crash between a car and a cyclist.

An ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and an air ambulance also attended.

It was later established that the cyclist suffered a medical episode rather than being involved in a crash.

The cyclist, who was a woman, was taken to hospital for treatment.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed today (October 31) the cyclist suffered a cardiac arrest.

Her condition is unknown.

The coastbound carriageway was closed between Five Ways and Frognal Corner following the incident.

The roads have since reopened.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said today (October 31):

“We were called at 10.46am on October 30 to reports of a person in cardiac arrest on the A20 Sidcup Bypass.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a person at the scene before taking them to hospital as a priority.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said yesterday (October 30): “Police were called at 10:48hrs on Sunday, 30 October to reports of a collision involving a cyclist on the eastbound A20 Sidcup Bypass.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance. “It was later established that the cyclist had suffered a medical episode rather than being involved in a collision.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The road has re-opened.

“The initial call to police suggested the cyclist had been involved in a collision with a car. “Officers established this wasn’t the case.”
