A POLICE operation to crack down on football hooligans led to 23 Millwall and Leeds fans being arrested.

The arrests were made by British Transport Police (BTP) and the Met at stations across the capital on Saturday (April 19).

This included 12 people who were arrested after the match when trouble flared up at London Bridge station.

Officers taking part in Operation Era made 32 football-related arrests across the country, only nine of these did not relate to the Millwall v Leeds game.

Most of the arrests related to public order and drugs offences.

BTP Superintendent for Operations Andy Ball said: "Fans who engage in football disorder on the railways are not welcome on the railways.

"We will seek banning orders to ensure that ordinary members of the public, along with law-abiding football supporters, can travel on the railway in safety."

If you look a bit more closely you will see the word Millwall is in bold because it is a link through to their website. Mind you, if you're a Millwall fan that oversight can be easily explained.

I actually had the extreme misfortune to be at London Bridge station at around 5.30 on Saturday and there is only one word to describe these so-called football 'fans' - animals. I don't know what club the lot I saw supposedly support but what I can say is they were knuckle-dragging, gobby imbeciles of the worst kind. It was a nightmare getting through the station for hundreds of decent people heading back from shopping or work or from visiting London, all thanks to these mindless thugs.

I was in Wollwich Saturday about 2 and a coach load of Leeds supporters came out of the Pub most of which were drunk but well behaved and stopping for a little chat with us locals! Millwall Fans are unfortunatly known for their bad behaviour but as usual the few bad ones give the rest a bad name.
