THOUSANDS of people paraded through Gravesend town centre today (April 12) to celebrate the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi.
The procession, which is called Nagar Kirtan, set off from the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Clarence Place.
It then went past the clock tower in King Street and the new Gurdwara temple in Khalsa Avenue.
Prayers were said from a stage built outside the new Gurdwara and there were speeches by invited dignitaries.
Throughout the route there were donations of food and drink by community members.
There will be a Gurpurb, a celebratory service, at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara tomorrow.
