THE Mayor of London's office has denied the rumour that the congestion charge will be introduced to Bromley.

It was reported in a national newspaper today that Mayor Ken Livingstone is planning much wider use of congestion charging in London's outlying Borough's if he is re-elected on May 1.

Mr Livingstone's transport manifesto, announced yesterday, made no mention of the extending the congestion charge zone.

However a source close to the Mayor has alleged that Mr Livingstone has been developing the plans in secret talks with Transport for London.

And that he has issued strict orders not to disclose anything about the proposal before polling day.

A spokesman for the Mayor dismissed the story as "completely untrue".

And a spokesman for TfL said: "There are no plans whatsoever to extend the congestion charge."

Commenting on the story the Conservative mayoral candidate Boris Johnson, said: "No doubt now his plan is out, he will deny it but we must remember he has form.

"First it was £5, then £8 and soon to be £25. We cannot trust him on the congestion charge".
