MOTORCYCLISTS from Kent who volunteer as donor blood transporters have helped to launch an Essex branch of their service.
Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (Serv) is a charity which delivers blood products to hospitals across southern England at night when it is urgently needed.
Serv has been running in Kent for 20 years.
Fifty cyclists rode through Kent to raise publicity for the launch of the Essex service.
Kent and Essex chief co-ordinator Peter Rolfe said: "Serv relies on fundraising and donations, so the ride was brilliant because it has raised publicity."
The charity is run by volunteer motorcyclists and drivers who give their time and petrol to deliver blood.
Serv riders operate between 7pm and 6am 365 days a year.
