ELECTRICITY supplies to 250 homes were cut last night after a power cable was brought down by a tree in high winds last night (March 10).

Firefighters set up a 10m exclusion zone at the incident in Redhill Road, New Ash Green, because there was a danger sparks from the 11,000 volt cable could have jumped and electrocuted someone.

The crew from Dartford fire station guarded the area from around 8.30pm until engineers from electricity company EDF Energy Networks arrived to turn off the power at around 11.30pm.

Engineers managed to restore the supplies to 214 homes at 11.43pm last night and linesmen to restore the supplies to the remaining 36 customers as swiftly and safely as possible.

An EDF Energy Networks spokesman said: "Teams are out across the region again from early this morning working to restore supplies as quickly and as safely as possible.

"We do understand how much inconvenience any interruption to power can cause and apologise to anyone affected."
