Graham Webb International style notes for the looks that are cool. This week, check out how to achieve great hairdos for special occasions.

1. Listen up all prospective wedding belles. If your red-letter day is due this spring or summer then right now is the time to be discussing styles with your hairdresser.

If you're a bride-to-be with your heart set on wearing your hair in a romantic, soft updo, then you'll need to allow time to grow out layers and fringes ... and that can take three to six months.

For shorter looks, spending time on conditioning and grooming now will ensure hair is on tip-top form.

2. With an important occasion coming up, make like the A-list and be sure your hair is as red-carpet-ready as your frock.

Flick through the glossy magazines and it's easy to see the current favourite hairstyle for high-profile events is the pull-back hairdo.

Not strictly an updo, hair is drawn off the face and caught at the back of the neck - fairly low - and fixed in place with a hair ornament.

The key is to look like you made an effort but didn't overdo it. So, once you've put your hair in place, loosen tendrils at the ears around the hair line for a softer, face-framing effect.

3. Retro 70s looks were all over the spring/summer catwalk shows (think hippy chic DKNY and Kenzo, or the short 'n' sweet looks at D&G and Marc Jacobs).

It's easy to emulate the vibe in your hairstyles - go long and loose for didn't-try-too-hard styles, or opt for more perky curly volume on shorter hair with a Studio 54 party look.

4. If you're devoted to your straightening irons and couldn't leave home without putting them through your hair, then why not be a little adventurous at least and try getting more movement into the style for a softer finish.

Simply run the irons through your hair as usual but as you reach the ends simply roll the irons slightly to create a flick.

It's much more now than poker straight, promise!

5. The one product party girls can't leave home without is Clynol's Look at Me Lustrous final shine spray. Spritz through styled hair to help combat frizz, while hair is left easy to manage, soft and glossy all night long. Simply beautiful.
