Whether you’re an aspiring football player or just a fan of the beautiful game, Classix Collection in Lewisham is a must-visit.
I visited the store to chat with the founder of Classix Collection, Will Amis, about his journey from collecting boots as a kid to then selling them to professional stars.
I’ve been a fan of football since the age of five and to visit the store was an exciting opportunity.
To be able to see how football has evolved over the years and what boots were worn by which legends was a surreal experience.
I was greeted by Will who showed me around the store and told me about the rich history behind the boots.
Will launched the company in August 2021 and told me how his hobby of collecting classic boots while growing up then became a full-time job.
It was interesting to hear how Will turned his childhood hobby into now selling boots to football players that you watch on TV every week.
Will said that he wanted to get into the football selling business rather than continue with education.
Will explained: “I always went to school and tried my best.
“I wasn’t the most talented, so I decided to give myself another option.
“My parents were massively supportive when I decided to get into the football selling business.
“My dad is the one who got me into football as I wore his first-ever pair of boots.
“Because of him, I realised I liked classic boots, and then from there I started my own collection.
“I started posting photos of classics on Instagram and it took off from there.”
After looking around the store, the Adidas Predator Powerswerves which are worth £300-£400 took to my liking.
These were simply my favourite as they were worn by the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, and Zinedine Zidane over the years.
The Nike CTR Maestri boots also caught my attention, as I wore these myself while playing football growing up.
I couldn’t have imagined that these boots that I wore would now be worth hundreds of pounds.
I was coming to the end of my visit, and I couldn’t leave without asking Will which players he has sold to.
It was crazy to hear that he’s worked with some legends of the game like John Terry and current West Ham star Declan Rice.
Will explained: "The first professional footballer I’ve sold to was Lyle Taylor and my first Premier League client was Declan Rice.
"I’ve sold to other players such as Maitland Nyles, John Terry, Marcelo Flores and Rodrigo De Paul.
"Since then, the business has grown."
I will definitely be coming back to learn more about the history behind other boots and maybe to even buy a pair myself.
