A pub in Greenwich has been named pub of the year in the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) awards 2022.

The River Ale House located in Woolwich Road was voted as the pub of the year in south east London by real ale drinkers.

The pub also won cider pub of the year for the second year running.

The co-owner of River Ale House, Joe Puddifoot said it was an "amazing feeling" to first hear the news of being crowned as the winners.

He said: "I just want to thank all the customers who have been supporting over the years.

"The last two years have been really challenging for us so to be recognised is truly amazing.

"It's a competitive field as there are other great pubs across south east London.

"Me, my dad and sister Sian opened the pub in 2017 so its great to be recognised for our hard work."

The winners are selected by CAMRA members with an aim to find the best pubs in the country.

To ensure fairness throughout the competition a judging process is applied by CAMRA through its own beer style guide.

The Royal Oak in Tabard Street was the runner up for south east London pub of the year award.

The previous winner in 2021 of the south east London pub of the year was the Dog and Bell in Deptford.

The runner up for the 2021 award was the Long Pond in Eltham.
