A new timetable has been introduced by Southeastern rail due to Covid related staff shortages.

The changes to the timetable in London will come into effect as of January 10.

Southeastern said there will be a seven per cent cut in the number of trains from Monday.

The railway says this will provide a “sufficient capacity and connectivity” for those using the services.

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: “Passenger numbers have reduced significantly in response to the latest advice, and this small reduction to the timetable (seven per cent) will provide sufficient capacity and connectivity for those still travelling.

“This change will enable us to operate a more resilient train service and is designed to prevent short notice cancellations.”

Southeastern tweeted (@Se_Railway): “With an increasing number of our colleagues affected by Covid and government advice that where possible people should work from home.

“We will be introducing a reduced timetable from Monday, January 10, 2022.”

Southeastern will reduce services on the following routes:

London to Dartford and the Medway Towns via Woolwich

London to Dartford via Bexleyheath

London to Dartford and Gravesend via Sidcup

London to Bromley North, Orpington, and Sevenoaks via Grove Park

London to Bromley South, Orpington, and Sevenoaks via Herne Hill

All Southern rail services to and from London Victoria have also been cancelled until January 10 due to coronavirus.

The spokesperson for Southeastern said: “This temporary timetable will be kept under constant review, alongside reacting to any updated travel advice and guidance when this is issued.”

South Western Railway (SWR) is also expecting to announce an emergency timetable from January 17.
