THE 35 per cent cut in funding Bexley has received from Transport for London (TfL) is very disappointing and will have an immediate effect on the council's plans.
It is not just because the amount has been slashed from £4.1m to just £2.6m, but because yet again TfL has failed to address fundamental problems with public transport in Bexley and south east London.
I agree with Ken Livingstone we should all try and use our cars less and public transport more, but first you have to provide alternatives.
The mayor has no plans at all to improve public transport in Bexley.
We need to see Crossrail built through Bexley and on to Ebbsfleet and the planned Greenwich Waterfront high speed bus service needs to be built into and through Bexley to meet up with Fast Track in Dartford.
We also need the DLR extended into Bexley. This would dramatically improve public transport in Bexley and south east London and give people a real alternative to driving.
CLLR PETER CRASKE
Cabinet member for transport Bexley
