AROUND 42,000 pirate DVDs with a street value of more than £200,000 were seized in a police raid.

The discs, along with 8,000 cigarettes, were discovered during the operation in Lee High Road, Lee Green, on November 29.

The operation was carried out by various agencies, including Lewisham police safer neighbourhood teams and trading standards officers.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of being involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit DVDs.

He was taken to Lewisham police station and released on bail to return on February 29.

At the end of the day i know people will think its only a DVD but the police are right to stop these people because what they spend this money on i.e putting drugs on our street for one! it all funds things which you would never belive. Keep doing it.....

I have been reading some of the previous quotes, and it beggars belief as to what some people write. For instance 'whats the public gotta do with this...' by jack sparrow, 30/11/2007. Is it my immagination, or do the DVD sellers sell to aliens. No, they do not. They sell to the general public, generating illicit funds (as much as £50,000 per day)for drugs, prostitution, terrorism and many other crimes. So the public is obviously involved. The other report stated 'Didn't know it was a crime to own cigarettes nowadays' by J. Althorpe, 01/12/2007. No, it is not a crime to own cigarettes, but surely even you must realise that the cigarettes that were seized are not exactly genuine. They will be counterfeit cigarettes that they are selling on the cheap, which should contain as many health warnings as possible. They are deadly and illegal. So to all out there on cloud nine, go back to sleep. To all out there fighting this problem in one form or another, keep up the good work.
