A MEMORIAL portrait of Philip Poru, the student shot dead in October, is being painted for Kingston University.

Philip had just started a joint honours degree in media and cultural studies with television and new broadcasting media at the university when he was shot dead in Long Walk, Plumstead at around 10pm on October 14.

A postmortem examination revealed he died of gunshot wounds to his chest.

An artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, will present the university with the portrait of the first year media student to be hung up as a memorial to him.

A spokesman for the university said: "Staff and students at the university's faculty of arts and social sciences, where Philip was a student, have been contributing to a collection that will be given to Philip's family.

"In addition, a memorial portrait of Philip has been commissioned and will be hung in the university when completed."

The university added that the artist is giving his time for free.

Olabode Amifowoshe, another Kingston University student, was also injured in the attack but he has now been released from hospital, and is believed to be under armed guard.

Six weeks into the investigation police still have not arrested or charged anyone. They believe the attack was carried out by two black men.
