A DRIVER was caught doing 128mph during a blitz on lawbreakers using the A2 and A20 through Bexley.

Officers from the Met police's south east tasking team set up an Automatic Number Plate Recognition operation near Whitehouse roundabout by Danson Park, Welling, on September 18 and September 19.

The technology scans the number plates of passing vehicles and the information can be instantly cross referenced with police and DVLA databases.

Over the two days, 50 cars were stopped and nine arrests were made for various offences including driving while disqualified, driving stolen vehicles and possessing an offensive weapon.

In addition, 24 uninsured vehicles were seized and impounded and 25 drivers were given fixed penalty notices for having no tax or insurance.

On other days in the same week, the Met's south east traffic unit targeted speeding drivers and several were stopped and reported for speeding.
