JUNE 19, 1998: National league basketball will no longer grace Watford's sporting stage as Watford Royals' reign in the town was ended this week.

Soon to be playing at a new location, with a new name, the Budweiser Premier League team has decided their future lies elsewhere.

Now known as the Milton Keynes Lions, the team will roar into next season at their new base at Bletchley Leisure Centre.

Lions, and formerly Royals, chief executive Vince Macaulay-Razaq cites the main reason for the move as the lack of a suitable venue in Watford.

The team has been playing at Watford Leisure Centre, which the chief executive describes as too small and inadequate for their needs.
