A kind man has donated £76.30 in change for a dog rescue charity after reading a poignant story in the News Shopper.

On Thursday (September 27) this publication reported how three women snatched a charity box from a butchers in Biggin Hill.

Jacobs Ladder, in Main Road, has been open since April and the charity box, which was full of donations, was destined for Silver Fox Dog Rescue.

Patsy Barlett, whose family run the butchers, told News Shopper a kind gentleman visited today (September 28) before leaving a generous donation for the charity.

She added that the man did not want to be named and offered the money after reading about the theft.

Another business in the area, Specology Eye Care Centre, was also targeted by the three women on the same day.

However, an employee caught one of the suspects reaching for a charity box before they eventually left.

She said: "They came in and were definitely trying to distract me. I can't tell if they have taken anything at the moment.

"One was booking an appointment. I looked over and someone was trying to reach for a charity box. We saw each other and she must have thought 'oh crap' and thought again."

The three suspects were described as Eastern European, dark haired and nicely dressed.

Police are aware of the incident.
