An Erith road was closed off while police dealt with what appears to have been an unexploded World War Two shell.
Cordons were put in place on Church Manorway on Wednesday afternoon after police were called when the shrapnel was found.
A Met Police spokesman confirmed officers were called at 3.45 on Wednesday afternoon to the road.
He also confirmed a "solid shell" had been recovered from the scene and was taken away for disposal.
The road was reopened and police left the scene shortly after 5pm.
