A Greenwich councillor accused of fraud and perverting the course of justice has been bailed to appear at crown court next month.

Tonia Ashikodi, 29, appeared at Bexley Magistrates' Court this morning, August 20, alongside her 49-year-old father Tony Ashikodi.

Cllr Ashikodi, who lives in Plumstead, is charged with two counts of fraud by misrepresentation.

She and her father, who lives in Thamesmead, have both been charged with perverting the course of justice.

The case follows an investigation by the council's anti-fraud team into the ownership of a number of properties.

The pair spoke to confirm their names, addresses and ages.

Tonia Ashikodi, a councillor for Glyndon Ward in Greenwich, has been suspended by the Labour Party following charges made by Greenwich Council.

Lawyers acting on behalf of Greenwich Council, prosecuting, and the Ashikodis asked for the case to be heard at Inner City Crown Court instead of Woolwich, the usual destination for cases sent from Bexley.

Magistrates bailed the pair to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on September 17, subject to the request from lawyers.
