Just a few hours before, traffic had piled up towards junction 3 after a crash believed to be between a lorry and a car between junctions 31 and 30.
At this time, it is not known when the traffic will clear but delays are expected to worsen throughout the evening.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys and look into other routes.
