Residents at the site of roadworks to be carried out in Bexleyheath next week have been warned not to trust people knocking on their doors and offering repairs.

A letter from Bexley Council, sent to residents in Avenue Road said they should be wary of people who claim to work for the council's contractor, FM Conway.

According to the council, people often knock on doors when roadworks are being done nearby to offer services such as new driveways.

However, the letter warns these people "cannot be trusted" and tend to provide work "of inferior standard."

It adds: "None of the council's contractor's employees are permitted to undertake private work."

The roadworks will be taking place at the junction of Crook Log and Avenue Road from Monday, August 13.

Avenue Road will be closed while works are carried out.
