One of Bromley Football Club’s most popular supporters has revealed he is working on his fifth book.

'The Long, Long Road to Wembley' will act as a sequel to Dave Roberts’ 'The Bromley Boys', which was recently turned into a film featuring Martine McCutcheon and Jamie Foreman.

Dave told News Shopper he was inspired to write his latest book after Bromley made their first Wembley appearance in 50 years earlier this summer.

Bromley were 1-0 up against Brackley Town in the FA Trophy Cup Final on May 20 before a last minute equaliser led to a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss.

Dave had been dreaming of seeing The Ravens play at Wembley since he was 13-years-old after falling in love with the club.

“It’s been a fantasy to watch Bromley at Wembley since I was a kid,” he told News Shopper. “So why not write a book on it?

"It is a beautifully designed hardback and is a sort of souvenir for Bromley fans who went to the final and those who followed the team in the years that led to it."

The story starts in 1968 when Dave was queueing up for tea during a half time match at Hayes Lane before he came across a photo of the Bromley team who won the 1949 FA Amateur Cup at Wembley.

Dave and his publishers are crowdfunding for his latest project after calculating that his other books 'The Bromley Boys' and 'Home and Away' earned him around £1.70 per hour.

He said: “I would love for Bromley fans to help support his book and to help make it happen.”

If all goes to plan the book will be finished by December before being published next August for the start of the football season.

He has already written a third of the book.

Reflecting on the recent Wembley final, Dave said: “It is a mixture of pride and disbelief on how close we came.

“The initial feeling was despair. I thought about it more on the way back and the better the feeling got because I saw Bromley play at Wembley.

“I was happy by the time I got home,” he laughed.

Dave said he hopes it will not be another 50 years before Bromley reach their next Wembley final and he is looking forward to another season in the Vanamara National League.

"I have never been prouder of the team," he added. "Last season was the best season ever."
