A dull room in a primary school in Lewisham is being turned into a bright and vibrant library thanks to a local estate agency.

The real-life DIY SOS project is taking place during the six-week summer holiday to provide St Saviour’s Primary School in Lewisham with a brand new library.

The old library was in need of an upgrade and CEO of The Acorn Group, Robert Sargent, has stepped in to help the school after a chance meeting.

Despite an excellent Ofsted inspection, St Saviour’s was keen to enhance their library facilities so children could enjoy reading more.

A study room for learning is also included in the construction plans and children and staff have had an input into the décor and design.

The Acorn Group is currently running a ‘Books for St Saviours’ campaign to encourage the public to drop off used children’s books to help stock the library.

Wife of Mr Sargent and author of psychological thriller, The Other Woman, Sandie Jones, has also donated some books to St Saviour's.

She has also inspired her publisher Pan McMillan to donate books from their children’s portfolio.

Books can be dropped off at any of the Acorn offices.

As a direct result of this project, Acorn has stopped sponsoring one-off summer fayre type events, and instead invest time and money into long-term projects that will make a difference to local schools and charities.
