Tributes have been paid to a father who was killed in a crash while riding a horse and cart in Thamesmead.

The victim, who has been named online by family and friends as Mikey Connors, was hit by a car in Eastern Way (A206) on Saturday morning (July 28).

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Connors was pronounced dead at the scene.

The horse was also seriously injured and was put down by a vet.

After police were called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Family members and friends of Mr Connors have posted heartfelt tributes to "the pride of their family" on Facebook.

One of his cousins, Simey Connors, said: "My heart is in bits over you."

He added he had sent his cousin on his way earlier that morning and wished him good luck, promising he would be waiting for him, but his cousin "never came".

Simey, who appeared to have arrived at the scene of the accident, added he fell to his knees and "begged Jesus and Mary for him to be okay."

In tribute to his cousin, Simey called him: "The best son, best father, best husband", and added he was the best at everything.

He also promised he would continue to look after the family after he passed away.

In a video posted on Facebook which shows Mr Connors singing with his friends, respects were paid to him and his family.

One person wrote: "May he get one of the best bed in heaven," while others said he was "gone too soon."

While detectives investigate the incident, an appeal has been made to the public for information and witnesses.

In particular, they would like people to come forward with dashcam footage.
