Police have thanked members of the public for helping a man who was threatening to jump from a bridge in Blackheath.
Officers were called to Charlton Bridge over the A2 yesterday at 4pm after a man was seen sat on the edge of the bridge with rope tied around his neck.
Members of public were talking to the man trying to convince him to come back over the barrier and when police arrived they tried to talk to him too but he wouldn’t listen.
Officers grabbed the man and, with the help of the public, detained him and removed the rope from around his neck.
Police say the man was sectioned and taken to hospital to receive help.
Members of public were thanked on scene for their help.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car and an incident response officer to the scene."
