Murderers, rapists and fraudsters have been jailed in south east London and north Kent this month.

News Shopper has reported on brutal murders, sexual assaults and even attacks on police officers.

These are the most significant cases last month.

William Pearce

News Shopper:

William Pearce, 41, of Brook Vale in Erith, was convicted after robbing lone females outside Welling train station.

Pearce was convicted for one count of robbery on January 11 and two counts of robbery on January 3.

He was sentenced to six years and four months in prison.

Frankie Pettit and Greig Andrew

News Shopper:

Frankie Pettit, 32, from Cricklewood, and Greig Andrew, 35, from Erith, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm and the robbery of Co-op in Dartford.

The pair stole cash, including a coin tray, from a till before both were put behind bars for over three years respectively.

The court heard that while Andrew queued at the tills with a bottle of beer, Pettit stormed into the shop with the dummy pistol and forced the cashier to open the till.

Salvator Kola and Xhovan Pepaj

News Shopper:

Salvator Kola, 44 and Xhovan Pepaj, 21, were jailed a total of four and a half years for operating a huge cannabis farm in a Northfleet house.

Both were jailed for two years and three months after the factory was uncovered when an off duty officer spotted Pepaj scoping out a neighbouring property in Mitchell Road to expand the drug farm.

Jordan Bailey-Mascoll

News Shopper:

Jordan Bailey-Mascoll, 26, of The Brent, was sentenced to life in prison for murdering a Bromley dad.

Danny Pearce, 31, was out with his girlfriend and two friends when he was attacked by a pair on a moped.

After refusing to hand over his watch, he was chased, stabbed and shot.

Imran Muhammed

News Shopper:

Imran Muhammed, 31, was jailed for life for hacking his colleague to death with an axe.

Seyed Khan, 49, from Thamesmead, suffered 12 blows to the head at A-Z Carpets in Ilford before Muhammed wheeled his body to a cemetery in a shopping trolley.

Muhammed then cleaned up the blood and called police "coolly and deliberately" to "spin a false story" about what had happened.

Kyle Slater

News Shopper:

Kyle Slater, 26, was jailed for 112 days for headbutting a special police constable and for stealing £197 worth of stock from Debenhams at The Glades shopping centre.

“Don’t be like Kyle,” urged Bromley MPS on Twitter.

Kevin Bond

News Shopper:

Kevin Bond, 51, was sentenced to six years in prison for a series of attacks that took place over a 13 month period.

The sex fiend from Chislehurst was dubbed the Rush Hour Prowler after targeting young women and school girls as young as eight.

He was told by the judge that his attacks were "distressing, shocking, violating, frightening, distressing and disturbing" to his victims.

James Nevin

News Shopper:

James Nevin, 41, of no fixed address, will spend three years and nine months in prison for robbing four homes in Kent.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rebecca Vears, said: “Nevin is a prolific burglar who targeted homes across north Kent in order to fund his lifestyle.

“He did not care about the impact his crime had on his victims and I have no doubt he would have carried on had he not been apprehended.”

Peter Davis

News Shopper:

Peter Davis, 58, was jailed for four years after claiming almost £1million in tax repayments through his failing Formula 1 Teamwear business.

Between 2009 and 2013 he fraudulently submitted 17 VAT returns to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to falsely claim repayments of £961,307.

Davis was disqualified from being a company director for seven years.

Vladimir Skljar

News Shopper:

Vladimir Skljar, 30, from Lordswood in Kent, was sentenced to two years and 10 months behind bars for leaving a driver with life-changing injuries after a crash near Northfleet.

He was twice over the legal drinking limit when he caused his victim serious leg injuries following the crash.

Skljar was also banned from driving for four years and five months.

David Hayes

News Shopper:

David Hayes, 31, of no fixed address, was jailed for four years after forcing a woman to pay £17,000 to fix a roof which was never even broken.

The victim was a 70-year-old Petts Wood woman who wrote Hayes two cheques to complete imaginary work in her loft.
