A video of a parking warden slapping a ticket on an ambulance because it was just over some double yellow lines has divided opinion.

The paramedics were on-call and had stopped to get some food and water, but their vehicle wouldn't fit into one of the parking bays.

The parking warden can be seen arguing that if they are getting food then they can't be on-call and continued to write them a fine.

The crew involved were with the North West Ambulance Service and they had parked outside a Tesco store in Northwich, Cheshire.

We asked Shopper readers in a Facebook poll if they should have received this parking ticket?

Here is what you said:

Sarah Lou said: "They are our emergency services, at some point or other we use them, so bloody what, they need to eat and drink, I don’t think this ticket was necessary, the warden should of turned a blind eye."

Stewart Baker said: "They often do not get a break from calls and, when resuscitating a patient, can be a very physical job. They need to fuel their bodies to save lives.

"I think that stopping in a parking bay, but overhanging slightly because it is too small, is acceptable and should not have been given a ticket."

Joanne Hall said: "So now the ambulance driver has to pay a £50 fine out the pittance they get paid - disgusting - ambulances should be exempt anyway."

Vivienne Waters said: "God give them a break - their jobs are hard enough as it is!"

However, not everyone felt the same.

Jackie Coyle said: "On call yet stopped for food and water? Yes ticket them."

Peter Smith said: "There is a million and 1 shops to get food and water they decided to park on yellow lines as they wanted to go in THAT shop so its no difference to me pricing a job and getting a ticket for parking on yellow lines its not a excuse in my opinion."

Michael Williams said: "The amount of times I’ve seen old bill parked on double yellows getting a burger or lunch , it’s a total joke !!!! I wonder if the brave traffic warden would give them a ticket!"

Paul Righty Nobby said: "90% say they should NOT have received the ticket? The law is there for us all, and I hate it when people like this, and especially the police, think the laws of the road don't apply to them."

Caroline Ch said: "Technically the exemptions only apply when they are responding to a call/emergency. They werent."
