Grassland in Woolwich the size of four football pitches is currently on fire.
The London Fire Brigade was called to Woolwich Common to the fire off Ha Ha Road at 3.51pm.
A spokesman said: "Grass and shrubland the size of four football pitches is alight.
"Fire crews from East Greenwich and surrounding stations are at the scene."
Eltham South Police warned people to "avoid the area if possible" and to expect significant time delays because of road closures.

The A205 South Circular Road is closed southbound at Ha Ha Road and northbound at Shooters Hill Road.
