Research has shown that the current heatwave Britain has been basking each other could give way to heavy rain and thunderstorms by August.

Data compiled from the last 30 years by Glowing Embers, the UK’s largest suppliers of Wood Burning Stoves, Flues, and accessories, has allowed them to predict what could be the wettest day of the summer.

It is predicted that south east London will be hit with a particularly wet day on August 4, with a predicted 1.6 inches of rain, based on historical records.

This precedes the day predicted to be the wettest across the UK this summer, August 5, where an average of 2.1 inches of rain is expected to fall.

A statement added: “We’ve had quite the run of good luck: blue skies, scorching sunshine, and what adds up to one of the best summers the UK’s had for years.

“However, as we Brits know only too well, all good things usually come to an end, and never more so than with our frankly unpredictable weather.

“Often, what follows a period of heatwaves is a series of thunderstorms that signal a break in the atmospheric pressure - usually quite welcome by frustrated gardeners who just want to see their flowery borders burst back into life.”

The temperature has dipped since the beginning of the week, with daytime temperatures in London sinking into the low 20s for the first time in weeks.

The forecast at the moment suggests temperatures will slowly start to build again until the end of the weekend, with temperatures as high as 27C and 28C forecast for the early part of next week.
