A Millwall supporters’ group who urged people to help repair an ambulance “vandalised” during England’s World Cup run have almost raised £10,000.

The London Ambulance Service expressed anger over a minority of supporters who jumped on top of the vehicle following the Three Lions’ win over Sweden.

Damage to it included dents to its bonnet and huge cracks in its windscreen after an officer was away attending to a patient on July 7.

However, since the appeal was launched the original £5,000 target has been smashed and the total has now reached £9,915 at the time of publishing.

In a tweet, the London Ambulance Service’s Joint Response Unit said: “Obviously we are chuffed with the result this afternoon but there is absolutely NO excuse to vandalise emergency service vehicles by jumping on them.

“This vehicle is now off the road and unable to respond to patients.

“We are better than this England…”

But even if the insurance company pays for the repairs, all money raised by the Millwall Supporters’ Group will still go to the London Ambulance Service.

The page reads: “At the Millwall Supporters’ Club we think it is very important to help our local community, so we want to help to raise funds to help with the repair of an emergency response vehicle that was damaged after the England vs Sweden game in the World Cup 2018 Quarter Final.

“We are very grateful for any donations and support you can offer.”

Kieran Trippier’s stunning free-kick five minutes in sent England into the lead during their semi-final clash with Croatia.

Though goals from Ivan Perisic and a Mario Mandzukic winner in extra-time denied Gareth Southgate’s men a place in the final.

This is the furthest the men’s national team has reached in the major international tournament since 1990, 28 years ago.
