Students from Abbey Manor College have joined together with the Ladywell Dementia Centre to redesign and plant its garden.
The college, which has partnered up with the care home, has run several projects between the two, with students helping out at the centre.
To celebrate the finished garden project, the centre invited pupils from the college to take part in their summer party.
Damien Egan, newly-elected mayor of Lewisham, celebrated with children and residents at the summer party. He said: : “What I like about today is that it shows the community coming together.
"This project between the old and the young and people from different backgrounds is really inspirational.”
Paul McKenzie, a tutor at the college, said: “The kids are the real stars here, the empathy and compassion they’ve shown the residents and their will to make the garden safe and pleasant for them is what shone through.
"We lucked in and had some brilliant weather for the majority of this project and the end result is that we have created a garden that can be used all year around for the residents."
