Today is set to bring about 28C temperatures as the heatwave sitting over London continues into another week.

But forecasters are saying Monday will see temperatures peak before dropping down to the low to mid 20s for the latter part of the week.

The Met Office says some parts of England might start to see some more rainfall this week, though for London and the south east, the forecast is currently still dry for the week.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Eventually it will be fresher weather that wins out, by the time we get on to Tuesday.

"Less hot, is the best way to describe next week, but it will still be warm.

"There will be some sunny spells but there will be a few showers around that could be heavy and thundery."

The current hot spell officially was declared a heatwave on June 24, seeing 16 consecutive days where temperatures were over 28C in parts of the country.

The hottest day of the year so far was recorded in Porthmadog in Wales on June 28, with a recorded temperature of 33C.
