A 17-year-old girl who was stabbed to death in Camberwell yesterday is thought to have been from Lewisham.

Officers from Met Police were called to a home in Brisbane Street at 12.16pm on Thursday (July 12) to reports of a stabbing and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old man, who police said was known to the girl, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at a south London police station.

A neighbour said today she came across the crime scene after another local messaged her to say the block had been cordoned off by police.

"I was told the boy ran into the neighbour's houses and said call the police, call the ambulance and was trying to give her CPR and trying to stabilise her,” the 31-year-old neighbour told South West News Service.

"And the police just came and dragged him out.

"Everyone heard it.

"It happened in the block, near the lift. You can see the blood marks they've cleaned but it's come through and there are a couple of knife stub marks as well.”

She added the 17-year-old was Brazilian but spoke with an English accent and lived in Lewisham.

The arrested man had moved into the flat in Brisbane Street with his mother around six months ago, she said.

The girl’s next of kin has been made aware of her death.
