Train companies are advising people rushing to get home tonight for the football to leave earlier.

Southern rail is warning commuters that tonight’s rush hour will be extremely busy, and is likely to start an hour early, because of the England vs. Croatia game at 7pm tonight.

The train company tweeted: “Watching the #ENGCRO game?

“We expect services from the early afternoon to be extremely busy as people rush home to watch the match.

“Please allow plenty of time to travel and check your train times by visiting http://nationalrail.co.uk”

Tonight’s game will hopefully put England into the final which as we learned last night, will be against France after they beat Belgium.

We hope that you have all been wearing your waistcoats to celebrate the great Gareth Southgate and are using #waistcoatwednesday, every chance you get.

However, Southern’s tweet as you would probably expect received an awful lot of backlash.

Janice on Twitter said: “Getting your excuses in early? Am sure the 18.06 service to Three Bridges from Victoria will be late for no apparent reason as usual so I'll miss the start of the game.”

Pete said: “Think you could also ensure your drivers turn up as they’re employed to? So often before an England match there are delays and it’s too common and correlated an occurrence to be anything other than drivers skiving!”

And Uplands said: “But most of those services will be cancelled, so this communication is pointless. @transportgovuk Delay Repay doesn’t work for customers. The only certainty is a continuation of appalling customer service.#itsallgtr #southernfail #jokers.”
