A man who was seen in Eltham striking car windows with a "hammer or a pole" remains on the run.
Police were called to Riefield Road at 5pm on Monday (July 9) to reports of an armed man damaging cars.
A spokesman from the Met Police said: "The man was seen to attempt to strike car windows with the object - described as either a hammer or a pole.
"Officers, supported by the police helicopter, attended the location to try and locate the man but he could not be traced."
No injuries were reported and enquires are ongoing.
One person wrote on Facebook to say they saw a man with a hammer trying to break into a car.
They added: "As it wasn't successful he tried the next car and created chaos on the street as people were trying to avoid him."
The witness said she was with her three children when she oversaw what was happening.
