The body of a woman in her early 70s has been discovered after police were called to a home in Woolwich.
Emergency services were called to Elmdene Road at around 6.40am on Sunday (July 1) to reports of a disturbance before the pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man, also in his early 70s, was taken to an East London hospital with stab wounds and remains in critical condition.
A Met Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 6.40am on Sunday, July 1, to a residential address on Elmdene Road, SE18, following reports of a disturbance.
"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.
"A woman, aged in her early 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.37am.
"The Homicide and Major Crime Command has been informed."
“Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. There have been no arrests.”
The woman’s next of kin have been informed of her death but she has not been formally identified.
A post-mortem examination is due to take soon.
