A planning application has been submitted to Bromley Council to supply 180 pupils with a temporary school.

Children were offered places for the new Bullers Wood School for Boys on March 1 after a relentless campaign.

The proposed permanent site for the boy’s comprehensive school is on the St. Hughes playing field in Bickley.

But until plans are approved for the Bickley site– an application has been submitted to temporarily house students on Westmoreland Road for one school year.

The current office building on 1 Westmoreland Road is vacant and comprises of a ground floor and three floors above.

Only the ground floor and first floor would be used by the Year 7 students from September 2018 until July 2019, if Bromley Council accepts the plans.

A temporary proposal comes after an application to build the school on St. Hughes’ playing fields was rejected in January 2018.

This was a u-turn on an original decision to give the plans the greenlight before traffic concerns were raised.

This led to hundreds of parents, campaigners and children, branded as “real heroes” by the Chislehurst MP Bob Neill, marching across Bickley.

Since the application was published by the council this week, there have been over 25 comments of support included the plans.

Mrs V A Findlay, of Petts Wood, wrote: “The success of this school is critical and vital to my son's wellbeing.

“I have the confidence that Bullers Wood School will provide him with the education that boys within the Bromley area deserve but is currently at a discount.

“Grant this planning permission to ensure a brighter future for the next generation.”

Jenny Fenwick, of Romney Drive, added: “It is imperative that this planning application is approved. The Bullers Wood Boys have their designated place in the school so it is essential for their educational development.

“I strongly support this application, as there are greater numbers of children requiring an education in Bromley than ever before and they all need and deserve a place to learn. This should not be a battle for our children's education, surely a formality.”
