An emergency application to permanently close an Islamic faith school in Chislehurst has been rejected.

A hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court concluded that Darul Uloom London was now safe after leadership changes.

This comes after police were called to Foxbury Avenue in Chislehurst on May 30 after a firearm incident.

The Met Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and was released under investigation.

A 65-year-old was subsequently arrested in connection to the investigation into the Islamic faith school.”

After the arrests – the school’s designated safeguarding lead and principal were dismissed.

The Islamic school was established in 1988 and it has today learned its future is safe after the court case.

The school’s solicitor, John Hartley, partner at Hodge Jones & Allen, said: “The trustees of Darul UIoom School take their responsibilities for safeguarding children extremely seriously.

“They have made significant structural changes to the school’s leadership and will keep the safeguarding of those children in its care under constant review.

“However, they are pleased that the court has recognised improvements have been made and that there are no immediate reasons for the school to be permanently closed.”
