A man has been arrested at Charing Cross station after claiming to be armed with a bomb on the Underground tracks.

British Transport Police confirmed on Twitter that a man had been taken into custody this morning (Friday).

As a result of the incident, commuters have been warned that the Underground station is partially closed, although police are now working to open the platforms.

Northern line trains are not stopping at the station but the Bakerloo line is said to be unaffected.

The station was initially evacuated while police were called to the scene to deal with the incident.

A statement from Southeastern confirmed its mainline trains are running normally to and from the station.
