Summer solstice falls between June 20 and 22 every year and this year it is today, June 21 in the Northern Hemisphere.

What is it?

Today is also known as ‘midsummer’ when the planet's rotational axis tilts most towards the sun. It is the day that has the longest period of daylight, so make the most of it.

What happens next?

After the Summer solstice the days will start becoming shorter and shorter as the Earth starts to tilt back on itself.
