Police in Bexley have been monitoring parents' driving and parking during the morning school drop-off this week after a child was "nearly hit by a car."

Officers from the Blendon and Penhill policing ward patrolled outside Hurst Primary School on Monday and Tuesday after reports of "dangerous manoeuvring and inconsiderate parking" from parents.

According to police, a child was almost knocked down recently by a car doing a three-point turn right outside the school.

After monitoring drivers in Murchison Avenue, officers reported they spoke to five parents who had tried to drive into the slip road right outside the school and asked them to park elsewhere.

They have also announced a crackdown on drivers who hold a blue badge, promising to take details of those who try to park in the slip road to ensure they "are not abusing the blue badge scheme."

After going back to the school on Tuesday, officers have promised to sporadically patrol the roads around Hurst Primary to make sure parents are parking responsibly.

Police also announced they are working with the school to send email notifications out to parents to encourage them not to park too close when dropping off and picking up their children.
