A murder investigation has been launched after a man stabbed in Bermondsey died in hospital.

Police found the 23-year-old man in a home on Lucey Way at 6.21pm on June 11 with stab injuries.

Detective Inspector Ian Titterrell, who is leading the investigation, said: "At this early stage, we believe an altercation involving a group of males began outside Helen Taylor House in Linsey Street.

"The victim then took shelter at an address on Lucey Way after being attacked."

The stabbed man was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition but medical staff were not able to save him and he was pronounced dead at 11.20am today (June 18).

His next of kin have been made aware and a post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

DI Titterrell said: "We know there were a large number of people in the vicinity at the time of the attack and I am appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. Any information will be treated with the strictest of confidence."
