Billions of super fleas are set to invade UK homes due to the recent humid weather, but what can you do to keep them away?

These super fleas need hot and humid weather to breed, which would put now as the perfect time for them to get on it.

The Mirror has revealed that there has been a recent surge in the number of these ‘uber fleas’ that have penises two and a half times the size of their bodies.

A female flea can lay up to 50 eggs a day and then these usually latch onto dogs and cats especially those that roam where rodents, badgers and rabbits have been, these then burrow in the carpet.

So what can you do to put these horrible beasts at bay?

He advised all pet owners to:

Wash pet bedding regularly at 60 degrees

Clean furniture to help destroy fleas at each stage of their life cycle

Vigorously hoover carpets, floorboards and skirting boards

Throw away the vacuum cleaner dustbag after each clean

Check your pet’s coat for fleas or flea droppings – brown or black spots

Regularly treat your pet with a flea treatment throughout the year

Treat your home annually with a household flea spray to prevent infestations

Fleas can live up to 12 months and according to a veterinary dermatologist at the University of Liverpool the UK flea population has risen dramatically in the last five years.
