Children inside the McDonald's in Thamesmead were definitely not loving it as thunderstorms rocked the fast food restaurant.

As lightning lit the sky outside on Tuesday (May 29), parents, grandparents and kids had to hide as water started to pour from the roof.

Hollie Clark took this video as buckets and cardboard were laid out in a desperate attempt to catch the indoor downpour.

A spokesperson from McDonalds said the damage was "minimal" but customers said they were unhappy with how the staff kept the store open.

Hollie told News Shopper: "It was an absolute mess, I couldn't believe the actions of all the staff. They should all be ashamed of themselves. It was disgusting."

Jade Estelle was also at the McDonald's that day and she wrote on Facebook: "The lights were flickering and yet they still let people in and took orders - there was a child that was so scared they were physically sick."

A spokesperson from McDonald's said: “The roof and ceiling of our Thamesmead restaurant was damaged as a result of the heavy rain on Tuesday. Nobody was injured as a result of the damage, the area was cornered off and the water was cleared.

"Our team spoke to customers near the incident at the time and they were compensated for their meals. We assessed the damage and as the damage was minimal the restaurant remained open.”

A weather warning remains in place for London with more thunderstorms and torrential rain expected over the next few days.
