A married software engineer died after being hit by a truck while cycling on a main road, an inquest was told.

Edgaras Cepura, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by the lorry during the rush hour last Friday morning (May 18).

His wife identified him five days after the collision at the busy junction of the A206 and A102 in Woolwich, where the Blackwall Tunnel approach and Woolwich Road meet.

Assistant Coroner Lorna Tagliavini opened and adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed following a short hearing at Southwark Coroners Court.

A court officer said: "I can confirm that Mr Cepura on May 18 was riding a bicycle and came into collision with a truck.

“Mr Cepura sadly died at the scene."

The Coroner heard Mr Cepura was originally from Lithuania and married to Jorgita Cepurae, an office manager, who identified his body at Greenwich Public Mortuary.

He was a software engineer and lived in south east London, the Coroner was told.

Police appealed for witnesses over the fatal collision during the morning rush hour.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Greenwich.

"Police were called at approximately 08.25 on Friday May 18 to reports of a lorry in collision with a cyclist on Woolwich Road.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. The cyclist - a 37-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

"There have been no arrests and enquiries continue."
