A former sports bar in Bromley is to get a new lease of life as plans for a pub and flats are set to be given the green light.

Developers want to renovate what was Mascots Sports Bar in Bromley High Street into a pub/restaurant, and include an office and three flats above it.

The building, which is currently empty, would also have a two-storey gym and fitness studio built behind it.

The plans, submitted by, Webb Architects Limited, are set to be given approval by councillors at a meeting next week, but not everybody is in favour of the scheme.

According to consultation responses, the proposed gym would be “visually harmful” to a nearby listed building – the Partridge pub – and would be “inappropriate to its historic design”.

However, planning officers at Bromley Council said: “Taking into account the issues discussed above it is considered that the development proposed would have a high quality design and would not have an unacceptable impact on the amenity of neighbouring occupiers.

“It is considered that the development would not be detrimental to the character and appearance of the conservation area.”

The building, which dates back to 1876, was used as homes in the 20th century, before being turned into a pub in the 1990s.

In 2008 the premises served as an Australian bar called Walkabout, but the boozer has had a few different makeovers since then.

In 2012 the building served as a sports bar called TP’s, and then it changed briefly again in 2015 before becoming Mascots a year later.

The scheme is set to be approved subject to conditions at a meeting on May 31.
